Getting ready for 85k90In a little less than a month, the 85k90 writing challenge will begin. I think I’m going to be ready, but the best laid plans of mice and men… A month is plenty of time. Or at least that is what I am currently telling myself. We’ll see. I made it through NaNoWriMo relatively unscathed, what’s another 85,000 words. Really, it should be easier since it isn’t as compressed as NaNo is. I am going to be making a concerted effort to engage with, and grow, my audience while I write. Weekly blog posts here, regularly scheduled posts to Facebook, and daily interactions on twitter. All of my blog posts will automatically shared to my Facebook and Twitter pages. However, both Twitter and Facebook will have posts that don’t necessarily end up here. So follow me on both platforms for MAXIMUM DAVE!!!! Once the writing is finished, there is 30 days of “finishing” time then on to editing. The part I am dreading the most. Writing a story on a deadline? No sweat. Taking a hacksaw to it in order to shape it into something others will want to read? I find it intimidating. Editing is when I start to second guess myself. But it is a necessary evil. It isn’t like I’ve got the disposable cash to send it out to a professional editor. On the other hand, during the editing process is when I will be really engaged with my audience. I’ll be posting excerpts and snippets. Close to the end of the editing process, I’ll also start looking for “beta readers”. The story for 85k90 is already planned out. Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration. I have a basic idea. It is actually something that I’ve had kicking around in the back of my head for a while now. The first couple of pages are written. Stay tuned for more to come.
