It’s officially 2019. That means 85k90 has started. I am approaching this a little differently than I did NaNoWriMo. We’ll see how well that works out.
So what am I doing differently? During NaNoWriMo, I wrote my ass off. I had days where I was pushing 5k. I think I actually had a few days where I did break 5k. That also made me burn out. Sure, I’d have a week of kicking ass. I even finished a full week early, despite having a number of days where I didn’t write at all. But I wasn’t happy with what I wrote. I wrote myself into a corner many times.
For 85k90, I’m pacing myself better. It isn’t a sprint to the finish line where I hit “submit” and it’s over. This time around, merely hitting the word count isn’t going to cut it for me. The goal is a finished and ready to publish book. That means not just throwing things at the wall and trying to make them stick. It has to be good. At least good enough after the first draft that it can be edited into a completed work.
The story that I am telling with this project is one I’ve tried to tell before and failed. I know it can be a good story. I just have to find the right way to tell it. And I really think this new challenge is going to be the way to go.
